To the website of the Modern Greek Program in the Department of Classical Studies at Boston University.
Our program, which was established in 1984, has a rich history of attracting students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. The program enables students to explore the evolution of Hellenic thought through the modern Greek language and to appreciate the culture of Greece.

In November 2012, the Boston University Philhellenes Project was launched by our Department in cooperation with the Program in Modern Greek in order to promote:

  • The appreciation of Greek culture in its continuous history from antiquity to the present day through cultural events at Boston University;
  • Scholarships for the study of Modern Greek at Boston University; and
  • A summer program in Greece that would permit students from Boston University and elsewhere to study Greek language and culture. The summer program was run for the first time in summer 2013 in cooperation with Deree – The American College of Greece in Athens.

We hope that this website site will provide useful information about all aspects of our program.
